Throw out what Reds had planned with a Sunday off.  They can go Lodolo, Littell, Abbott, Singer, Burns and they all will have 5 days rest just the same.  As for Martinez, they need him in the bullpen if they are going to have a bullpen to make a play-off run. 

The game was started in the pouring rain with Burns on the mound, and they knew the weather radar showed endless rain coming in.  Game should not have been started. This game should have been called a rain out around 7 PM.   Now you just can't warm up Burns and start him again and take a chance of injury that way.  The only smart thing is warm up Lodolo and move the others up a day, and they all still are on 5 man rotation rest due to how they pitched last week.  

Francona is not stupid enough to try to start Burns 2 days in a row.  Reds have had stupid managers, but Francona is pretty smart. Simply go Lodolo, Littell, Abbott, Singer and then Burns later in the week, and they are all still on the right amount of rest. 

You also forget Burns warmed up to start this game twice, you can't warm him up to start again the next day.  I saw Reds pitch Soto and Harang in back to back games, and they came up career injured. Is that what you want with Burns, career injured ? 

I was watching too and it absolutely was not pouring rain at 9:40 when the game started. Light rain at worst but nothing they couldn't play in. You could see the rain had really picked up when they came back from commercial for the bottom of the first which is when you could see the standing water on the infield dirt. Looking at the radar at the time it looked like that area of rain would stay north of Bristol but it expanded south just enough. Weather doesn't play by any rules.
