Looking at his playing time in the slot and outside, he's more productive in the slot.
In 2011, with Cam Newton setting rookie recrods, he ranked 6th on the team in receptions. In 2012 he actually didn't do too bad as a #2. In 2013 he spent more time in the slot as they used Ted Ginn on the outside.
In 2014 when he joined the Patriots he was moved in the slot and outside quite a few times.
However, in 2015 when he was asked to basically be more of a #2 and stay on the outside, his numbers dropped and he didn't consistently win.
LaFell is basically a replacement for Sanu, not Jones. And there's nothing wrong with that, LaFell can play in the slot and outside, but he's not going to win on the outside consistently. He needs to move around, that's his strength.
We still need a legit #2 who is going to consistently be able to win on the outside.
If I remember right, he's played 60-65 of his snaps in slot. Or maybe that was just in Carolina.
