It seems like a bit of head scratcher to be in such a rush to pay a play with 4 career starts a TJ Ward level contract.
To each their own, but I would have rather paid a know commodity in Reggie Nelson for another season, and revaluated Williams's situation after the year.
Hard to truly evaluate Williams if you keep putting Nelson out there though the extension does strike me as early.
Having said that, the Bengals FO has earned the benefit of the doubt on these things so I tend to lean towards the thinking that this was a good preemptive strike before Williams' value soared.
