Run the ball doesn't mean don't have any receivers in a pattern

We run better out of with 2 in the backfield. The problem is we are ineffective at passing out of the same personnel grouping. Increase your ability to pass the ball out of those groupings, and defenses can't just stack the box which will improve the running game.
