As fro newer movies I would suggest "Boyhood".  It is unlike any movie I have ever seen.  I kept waiting for some big contrived plot twist, but it was just a discourse on the life of a boy growing up.  And at the end of it I had a very unique feeling.  Ethan Hawke was really good as his father,

Didn't think about that fred, maybe some one or I could start one from say 2000 or earlier?
