I'm betting that statistically, the TD% from 1 yard out is much higher than 5. When you're that close, a run or 2 is almost guaranteed because passing is much more difficult because there's less field to cover. But the defense knows this, so they stack up for the run. Therefore it's likely your runs are aren't going to gain much. That's why 5 yards may as well be a mile compared to 1 yard.
