However, once Pat Shurmur became the Vikings OC, Shurmur made a commitment to get Patterson the ball, but it could be too little too late since Patterson is about to his FA. Patterson has now been on record saying that he wants to go to a team that will treat him as a bigger part of the offense and not just a return specialist.

I've always kept an eye on Patterson since he was drafted by Minnesota in the first round. He was that raw prospect that was dynamic with the ball in his hands. Unfortunately, he hasn't really emerged as an established starter like everyone hoped. He's only put up 1316 rec yards and 7 rec TDs in 4 years. He's also had 4000+ KR yards and 5 KR TDs over that same span though. He's also only 25 years old, so he still has time to blossom into a true dynamic receiver.
Obviously, it would be absurd to think he deserves the money that more established WRs will get. But if the budget does end up being tight and the Bengals can only invest a few million into a WR, would you spend it on Patterson? If so, you'd have to be willing to give him opportunities as a receiver while also utilizing him as an all-pro returner.
I personally think that he could be a good yet risky option if the Bengals were looking in the bargain bin for receiver opposite of AJ Green with Boyd in the slot.
If somebody could ever truly harness his enormous talent, he would be some weapon. I remember we couldn't even slow him down the last time we played the Vikes. He's fast as hell and hard to tackle.
