The Pats were what 14-2 this year? It should come as no surprise that they won.
If your theory held true - then the Cowboys or Packers would have been in the Super Bowl as well.
I guess the only other thing - Do you really think Goodell wanted to hand the trophy to the Pats and Tom Brady? Me neither.
