Fans tend to turn on players when that happens. I wasn't a Maualuga hater, but I get why people bashed him.

I did not find 2016 numbers, but  this shows how all of the contracts are impacted from 2017 to 2018, most are raises and a lot of contracts so it will always be a factor in spend and also cap numbers.
