I am sure this is not what you meant, but you seem to be supporting the notion that Racism is still a rampant problem.  That people are blind and don't care.  The facts are that 40 years ago, what you saw would and was ignored and would never have been reported.  The fact that there is a conversation going on today, that everyone talking about it is offended and baffled says things are better if not much better.  And while it's true that racism is not a distant memory (whoever said that wads an idiot), things are much better in most areas of the country.  However, education and upbringing in certain people and especially certain areas of the country still breed ignorance.  Just add alcohol and the ignorant open their mouths for all to hear.
