I'd say these four are locks:
AJ Green, Brandon Lafell, John Ross, and Tyler Boyd. That leaves two spots open plus one or two to the practice squad.
I'd say it mostly between these four:
Cody Core, Alex Erickson, Josh Malone, Jake Kumerow.
Erickson started off pretty slow at returning to begin season but finished very strong ! He finished 2nd in average return yards. Do you really release or PS him ? Is he even PS eligible ? I don't think he had a single reception last season ? Can he contribute at WR ?
Cody Core flashed at the end of last year, and he can stretch the field. Is he PS eligible ?
Josh Malone can also stretch the field and has good strong hands. Can make contested catches but is a little weak in cuts and slants.
Jake Kumerow is a big question mark to me ?
I think the final two is going to be:
Cody Core and Josh Malone. Wilson can be the kick returner because I don't think Erickson can contribute at WR. And just like locking up a roster spot for Peerman I'm basically against tying up a spot for a player who offers little besides that.
Erickson is pretty much a lock with Wilson on the NFI list and not practicing. With Iloka out 3-4 weeks and Smith dinged up, they aren't going to go into the Baltimore game with potentially Williams and Wilson as the only healthy S's. Combine that with the fact that Wilson is extremely raw and has already missed half of TC, and the fact that 7 WR's makes more sense than 11 DB's.
Malone is safe as a 4th round pick, though he probably doesn't dress on gameday.
I think they will try to work Core onto the roster if they reasonably can, though injuries at other positions may make it hard to go short, there. I could also potentially see a WR getting traded to a needy team on cut day.
