You shouldn't keep a HC because you feel comfortable with him and don't want to go looking for someone else to hire. If the results on the field mean so damn little to you, and one might reasonably suggest the last 26 years sorta hint that's the case, then sell the team to someone who does care about winning and give the money to your family. Everybody wins, especially us.
I really think your 2nd paragraph is why Marvin is here. He's a company guy that operates under the structure the Browns put in place.
Also, he's had way better results than the 90's. Above average is better than Terrible in their mind.
That said...there's no way they retain him with his contract up after this season
If you're Marvin...I think you either retire or go coach another team if one wants you.
