It's been the same thing for years. He has good games, bad game, and above average/average games and people want to judge him on whatever he does in that particular game and say that's how Dalton plays.
He's an above average QB overall. Somewhere in the 12-16 range of QB's if they were all ranked.
We could certainly do much worse. I don't think McCarron would do better.
