When he hires someone, he keeps them until they absolutely suck up the joint. A lot can be said for that. And don't act like this team hasn't had its share of talent. The 2005 team and the playoff run show that you can win here, you just need the right guy to get them over the hump.
I'm torn as to who I think it will be, but I also think that the coordinators will be the biggest hires. Hopefully we can keep Guenther and bring in a fresh mind to work with the offense.
The Bengals will hire a coach who comes in and works under their management structure. They're going to have to want to scout. They're going to have to be content with not spending heavily in free agency. They're going to have to be ok with letting guys leave and getting Comp Picks.
In 2003 Couglin didn't come here because they didn't want to bring in a GM and hire more scouts. He didn't think he could win here.
re: Your 2005 team shows you can win in the playoffs - WOW! We can win in the playoffs! Some 23+ different teams have appeared in a Super Bowl since we last won a playoff game. Most teams have 5+ wins over that span.
It's not some big achievement.
