It's pretty much guaranteed that SF will franchise Jimmy if they can't get a deal done before then. Assuming he doesn't flop.

Yea that was my thinking. Why bother trading for a QB who is expected to hit FA after this year with 8 games to go this year and being winless? You don't make that trade without the intent to extend him. The 49ers essentially traded a 2nd round pick to see how he does for half a season and also be the first team to get to sign him to new deal (if they want).
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
