I've read that PB felt that Walsh was too cerebral and not authoritative enough to be the head coach.  Also, Bill Johnson had been with Paul forever, so there was some loyalty there.

He expected Walsh to stay on and continue to run the offense.  Maybe he would have been next in line.

Walsh believed he had been promised the job, was very hurt by being passed over and left for San Diego.
