Lions - Rank (28th), 3.4 avg, 80. 8 yds/g
Bengals- Rank (32nd), 3.0 avg, 68. 0 yds/g
At 3.4, 3 runs move the chains and the defense remains on the sideline.
At 3.0, 3 runs are 3 and out and the defenders are grabbing their helmets.
Obviously .4 YPC isn't a massive difference per carry. However it is enough to allow the defense enough rest to make a game changing play; or get the special teams close enough to add 3 points instead of punt; or force the opposition to play the run with 8 in the box and be subject to the play action game making it easier for the offense to get some points themselves.
In the grand scheme of things, I would say those things could easily have given us 2 more wins, and thus an identical record to the Lions.
So maybe Stafford isn't overcoming anything, but has something slightly more efficient and effective aiding him?
