I took it that the kid was more being influenced by the rebellion (or resistance) than anything related to the Jedi or the force. That was the same kid Finn and Rose interacted with. They kept saying that Leih and her group needed to be the "spark" that influences others to join the cause. The kid was clearly influenced by the resistance hence the logo on the ring. I dont think it had anything to do with him being influenced by the force or Jedi ways.
