The issue with the torn peck is where the tear is, a lot of times it effects that bicep too. I tore mine in college and while you can do some lifts you probably aren't doing any dead lifts or squats for the first couple months post injury so your limited to leg presses and other machines that don't require upper body usage. Redeveloping the chest takes some time, but it'll come back. I think his strength will be down a bit but my guess is by the time season starts he will be back to mostly normal.
