This looks like an awesome thread. Unfortunately, I have neither the time nor enough of a Star Trek buff to read and appreciate all that.
On a related note, it's funny I still enjoy watching the OG Star Trek when I can. Despite the crappy special effects and props, I think it speaks to how much better cinematography was back then (same thing with movies). I think the use of camera angles and lighting is really becoming a lost art (which is a subtle reason behind the success of True Detective and Breaking Bad).
