Personally, i think it has more to do with a fear of blowing a lead by being too aggressive--pick six, turnovers, quick series, etc--so he just trusts the defense and field position too much. It's much harder to point to a blown lead when it's slow death as opposed to quick turn arounds with turnovers. But it's def been a Marv staple during his reign.
