Let’s rewind to Week Two against the Ratbirds when Jessie Bates III made his first NFL interception. After the game, analyst Michael Irvin reviewed that play and went absolutely nuts. Why? Most picks are made on the front end of the play and it’s very difficult to make a pick on the back end — but that’s exactly what Jessie Bates did. According to Irvin, only the very best defensive backs can make interceptions behind the receiver and when it happened to him it scared him because it meant the defensive back had to be taken more seriously than the others.
