Flash cards are designed to aid in memorization, not comprehension.
The doll idea, however, isn't bad. It's the first thing you've come up with that isn't terribly problematic with the metaphor. I knew you could do it if you kept trying! Third time's a charm, I guess. Puppets would probably work better, though.
By the way ... You're 'rolling out of ideas'? Don't you mean 'running'? Do you ever roll out of luck? When's the last time you rolled out of toilet paper?
