I think the whole "4-3 2 gap" principal is situational, at best. By nature, a 4-3 is a single gap defense. Typically, the only time a 2-gap technique is employed in a 4-3, is when they are going to drop a lineman into coverage, to compensate for a backer coming on a blitz.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations
