I can see us 365 days from now talking about how excited we are to see what he can finally do now that he's been elevated to the #2 WR role, unless this year is a total disaster for him.
I haven't studied the cap situation, but who else could be our WR#2 going into 2020? I'm not convinced Boyd would refuse all outside offers to stay here, if that's his option.
Bengals have been very willing to go outside to bring in a veteran WR2 (up to a certain cost), and I suspect they would do the same if Boyd were to leave and Ross didn't do enough to give confidence after this year.
Here's a list of FA WRs next year - https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2020/all/wide-receiver/
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
