The Bengals desperately another OT or two, preferably solid starter caliber or better.
The only way to get a solid starter or better at this point is through trade.
The Bengals would have to give up valuable draft capital to acquire such a player as well as a big cap hit depending on the player.
Trent Williams costs ~$14 mill per year for the next two years and likely would require a first round or MAYBE second round pick.
Trent Williams will be 32 by the end of his contract.
The Bengals prefer to pay big money/years to players who are in their 20's, not 30's.
So basically, if the team thinks they can compete this year or the next for a championship, Williams would be worth picking up.
However, I think the team views the coaching change as a reset and wants to give them young guys to groom and build around.
I don't think they want to give a player $14+ mill a year to be a stopgap and any outside player who is 30+ years old will always be viewed as a stopgap with this organization.
