Suffice it to say, Marv would play guys (for a number of reasons) longer than he should have, based on their performance and, in turn, would keep a guy on the bench longer than he should have (again, for a number of reasons).
It disingenuous to pigeonhole him and say he did one thing while not doing the other.
It's hard to say for certain that he wouldn't have given MJ the start at OG, because Boling retired. It is pretty certain that he would not have started Willis, because Malone and Core have been here longer and they have more game experience.
