Not sure who said that a 1st for AJ would mean he's basically as valuable as OBJ, but they're either misinformed or blatantly lying.
Beckham was traded for a 1st, a 3rd AND Jabril Peppers.
Peppers was just a 1st round pick in 2017, was only 23 when he was traded, has 2 years (or 3 with team option) left on his rookie deal @ only 1.4 and 1.8 mil per. He started EVERY game last year and has started EVERY game this year. He's 2nd on the Giants in tackles , 2nd in tackles for loss, 1st in forced fumbles, 2nd in pass deflections, and he's already got a pick 6. And all that from the safety position!
So I'm not sure how a 1st for AJ can be called similar to that compensation. The 1st and 3rd alone is significantly greatee before you even get to Peppers. (For reference, Minkah Fitzpatrick, a secondary player similar in age and draft position to Peppers, was traded for a 1st on his own.) The Giants got so, so much more than what was claimed in comparison.
Glossing over these additions is incredibly dishonest. Not to mention this comparison completely ignores time of trade (supply and demand), reason for trade (bargaining power) and cap considerations and player profile (risk). Oh, and btw, OBJ was coming off 16 missee games in his last two years, with an average of 650 yards and 4 TDs over those seasons. Not exactly the pillar of health or locker-room leader either. And at the price of assuming and committing to the 2nd highest WR contract in football over 5 years!
