"The Bengals don’t feel it’s their job to make other teams better."
#75
When players good or bad can make just as much money losing as they can winning the incentive for winning isn't very strong. The painful fact is that most players are not from the cities their teams are based in and don't live in them in the off season.
Think about that a moment.
Suppose you're just a mere janitor sweeping floors for minimum wage with absolutely no chance for advancement . You can be offered to sweep floors at the same pay for some mega successful corporation and attempt to claw your way to the top or remain with the little company in some town and claw your way to the top of the same place. Either way you're still sweeping floors and the floor doesn't really care. In football you're still either catching a ball, throwing a ball or knocking someone else to the ground and the field you do it on doesn't care who you're doing it for. The end result is still the same.
In the immortal words of my old man, "Wait'll you get to be my age!"

Chicago sounds rough to the maker of verse, but the one comfort we have is Cincinnati sounds worse. ~Oliver Wendal Holmes Sr.
