Someone will probably be able to contradict this statement, but I can't remember the last time the Bengals had a "really good" defense when Burfict wasn't on the field.  He made that much of a difference (of course, when he was playing and not suspended.  Better tackling on the edges, better coverage by LBs, better run defense in the middle with Reader....

There are a lot of reasons to see how this defense could take a major step forward this year.  That, and a more reliable offense.
