Pop Singer, IMO.

Also, more-beloved for her look than her singing chops (which are average at best, I feel).

The names people are putting in here (Ella, Aretha, etc.) are absolutely NOT rock singers lol; phenomenal singers yes, but not rock.

She by no means has a pleasant voice and also yells to death, but Tairrie B has one of the most powerful voices I have ever heard in rock/rock subgenres; WOW can she belt it out. Sure, it doesn't sound too great but for raw power in a singing voice, few (if any) can touch her.

That shrieking and yelling is in key though... Don't believe me? Watch somebody karaoke Janis sometime.
