His increase in production and effectiveness had nothing to do with the number of carries. The second half of the season he was effective running the ball early in the games before he got a lot of carries. That would not have been true if he just needed to "get into a rhythm" by getting more carries in a game.
every team or individual player that I have ever seen have a lot of success running the ball could run the ball early in the game. There was never any requirement of a certain number of carries before they started getting effective.
