Military men do it all the time. Maybe set up the bye week as a leave time, with rigorous testing upon re entry.

I do. I actually look at my "essential job" as a blessing, as I  have barely missed a beat.
Perhaps their sense of patriotism could be appealed to. Because our nation could really really use a little normal right now.

I think the whole kneeling during the anthem and appealing to patriotism is in serious conflict.  Athletes kneel to bring attention to social injustice. Until they believe it's over.... I wouldn't think they care about being labeled patriots.
