A stupid thing to say whether he was next to a mic or not. But the reality is that everyone has said or done something stupid and/or offensive in their lifetime. I don't agree with his comments at all, but can I honestly say in my life I've never said something when with friends in the heat of a moment or letting a joke or comment snowball into something bigger, and said something I regretted? I've certainly done it.
Yes, he's old enough to know better. Yes it was insensitive and yes he should be fired over it. Time to cool down, time to think. And maybe if it's something out of habit or point of view he's taken one stance on, this will give him a chance to re-think and come out better in the end. I don't think his career should end over it, but no one's going to hire him tomorrow, either.
That said, no major loss in the booth as far as I'm concerned. Now if only Joe Buck could say something to get fired from the booth.....
