never enlisted, but spent first 18 years of my life on base. I have mixed feelings about it. I feel like being enlisted (which is mostly the people that get the recognition) doesn't mean the same thing it did 20 years ago. I don't know anyone that joined up because they wanted to...they joined because they had no other options. There's nothing honorable with that...they're lucky the military was there to bail them out of failing at life. Sure that's not all of them...so with that said...
What bugs me the most is (now that i live in a larger metropolitan area and military personnel aren't common), it totally annoys the shit out of me when i see some random dickwad see someone in uniform and say "hey soldier! Thank you!"....like really wtf are they thanking him for? People do that shit because they think they're supposed to. You want to thank them? Send care packages while they're deployed....don't do shit on the spur of the moment to impress your lady friend
