I've also played team sports with guys that will feign injury when they struggle so they have an excuse for playing poorly and can hopefully get pulled out of the game.
The only way AJ has of getting a last contract is to prove to teams he can still play. He can't do that by feigning injury. He is not healed, and may never be. Bottom line. He knows it, that's why he is looking dejected.
