I have a better example than that. In the 8 seasons prior to 1972 the Pittsburgh Steelers only won 30 total games. In the 8 seasons starting in 1972 they won 102 games including 4 Super Bowls.
In the 38 seasons before 1972 the Pittsburgh Steelers only had 7 winning years. In the 43 years since then they have only had 6 losing seasons. (The NFL season was only 14 games for 6 of those 8 years)
