No it isn't. It is playing the role the coach gave you.
Wes Welker was not a "bum" just because he only had 29 catches his first two seasons with the Dolphins. That was just the way the Miami coaches used him.
Why are yo so obsessed with making Sample a bum? He is just doing his job. If you laugh out loud when he messes up what do you do when he makes a tough one-handed catch? Go crawl under your bed and whimper?
