From playing around with the cut and trade options, the only way to get any savings is from a trade. And that savings would be $2.077 mill.

Probably doesn't matter either way. They won't want to eat 40% of what it would cost to keep him, nor do they want to admit such tremendous failure by cutting a 1st round pick after 3 years.
