I'm not enamored with that Waynes contract but I think it's a false economy to pass on paying WJIII $8m+ a year because of it. A second or third tier starting CB in FA will still likely cost $5m on a one year deal so your saving less than you're paying Shawn Williams to sit on the bench this year whilst not actually solving the problem long term and making the team weaker. Really the only way to save money without weakening the D at the position is to draft early but that opportunity cost of that will be significant.
I know everyone complained about that Dre Kirkpatrick contract but cutting him didn't actually save money as we ended up paying his replacement that and more. Whether that was an upgrade remains to be seen but WJIII is a better corner than Dre. If we don't re-sign him this D will be weaker as a result.

Idk what he makes- money wise ... but I do know he makes plays. It’s possible to get him for several years on the cheap(er) side of things.
