Hobson is already making the case that a player like Thuney would not be on the Bengals radar because he would command more than our front office would be willing to spend. Well Hobson was wrong last year and I'm hoping he's wrong this year. Our front office opened up the purse strings last year, to the surprise of many including myself, and I don't see why this off season would be any different. The Bengals are under the same financial restraints as the other 31 teams so we should be able to compete in free agency just like anyone else. I'm not saying we should over pay a free agent in a position of need if they are demanding an insane amount but I don't want us to wait too long to fill positions of need and have to dumpster dive in day 3 or 4 of free agency either.
They're actually in a much better position to spend than the majority of the league. Only five or six teams have more cap space. If they want to get someone, they can.
