The Bengals haven't won a single playoff game since modern free agency began in 1992

Their strategy is to let players leave in free agency that want more money than they deem they want to play and take a comp pick.

We all admit that the draft is a crap shoot. But, then a lot of people on here have been brainwashed into thinking free agency is risky.

Why not sign some of the 2nd and 3rd tier free agents that can improve the team? Like this offseason, there were tackles and guards in free agency that could have come in on 2-3 year deals and improved the team at a reasonable price. (Note: We had almost $22 million in cap space if you take Andre Smith's contract off the books.)

1st Round pick success rate is around 50% or less. So is it sound strategy to let 2 Tackles go and replace them with draft picks? No. Mathematically the odds of both drafted Tackles replacing them adequately was probably less than 10-20%.

The comp picks we get just turn into special teams. We let starters go and justify it with draft picks.

IF the draft was so important to the Bengals why do they have a woefully small scouting department compared to other NFL teams? When you have your coaches scouting, it creates a conflict of interest. If a coach doesn't like a guy that the owner wants to draft...the coach will not play the guy to prove he's right. Conversely if a coach wants a guy drafted and the guy isn't performing, the coach may stay with the guy longer than needed.

It's almost as if the Bengals say they want to win but don't commit all of their resources to winning...when compared with other NFL Teams.

Time to wake up fans. It's no coincidence that we haven't won a single playoff game since free agency started.

Thoughts...

Yep. Perhaps the Bengals need to adjust their player acquisition strategy?

Like if the draft is so important...maybe we can have an NFL size scouting dept?

Just love being constantly clubbed over the head about the franchise's failures. Is it said every single day in case anyone crawls out of a cave who doesn't know this? Can't we all just concentrate on how bad we suck now and just let it be understood that we all know the past? This just feels like bitching for the sake of bitching. For crying out loud. How many tears are necessary?

Why is it relevant? Because we've had largely the same management team in place during that time period.

Why not change our overall strategy? If something has failed for 26 years...why not mix it up?

Yet there are people who actually believe the Bengals propaganda and do posts about how the Bengals are the model for free agency that other clubs strive to follow. Pathetic.

People keep bringing up "the past" because we've had the same:

HC for 14 years
OL coach for 20+ years
owner/GM for 26 years

The past is the present and the future in these parts. Lordy, those guys right there account for 60 years of experience doing the same ol' crap.

Think there is a correlation between the modern free agency start and the not winning a playoff game?
