Absolutely true. I’m grateful to have been born via C-Section.

Finally a useful thread!

I had very fine hair to begin with, and now it's thinning and receding. I'm going to give rogaine a REAL try, but I doubt it helps (have used it, but not stuck with it - the foam isn't actually bad as a volumizer/styling product).

Propecia and the like seems pretty decent, but it's not for me. I'd consider transplants - which have gotten pretty good - but I'm worried I'll end up with a really odd hair pattern in 10 years when everything else goes away. I could always shave it, but like others said I don't think a shaved head works for me.

I think you will see a real solution for curing baldness soon for no other reason than the current aging population provides a huge monetary reason to do so. In the last year there have been a couple promising studies and results on possible medications to combat it. They have drilled down pretty far in to what causes it other than simply saying "genes" and now that they have a good idea of cause they can look for better ways to fight it. My guess is within the next five years there will be common and effective treatments for it.

I could've sworn that I heard that they had discovered a cure back in 2013 or 2014. Then I never heard anymore about it.

They have come and gone, but this year has been especially packed with various research and drugs. I think as the population ages more they see more money there, think of Viagra and how big a boom there was around that. First one to market with a balding medication that doesn't make you impotent possibly wins a huge jackpot.

Treatments....  other than altering DNA or sewing hair onto your scalp I don't think its a curable issue lol

You can also skin a squirrel and tape it to your scalp.  :)

I'm with you.  I don't think its a curable issue either.  you either have hair, or you don't.   Me, personally, I would rather not have hair.  I can't imagine the amount of money I've saved over the years by not having to go get a haircut every 4-6 weeks.  $15-$20 a haircut, ten times a year.....that shit adds up quickly!

You could always get yourself cured, and keep shaving your head. I did it in my 20s just because I liked the look. I do it now outta necessity. It's better to have options though. At the same time, I'm guessing any cure would come at a steep cost.

Ummmm, yeah. I don't expect a "cure" any time soon, nor even within my lifetime.

Although the transplants have gotten pretty damn good and advanced. But like I said, if the rest keeps falling out you'll be having to shave what you transplanted.

I guess it's not a big deal to shave hair transplants where you'd otherwise be bald, anyway. I'm starting to consider it - an average transplant of 4000 follicles could make me look 10 years younger (and currently I can mostly cover-up any evidence of thinning or recession).

I've never asked anyone that has been through a transplant, but I would imagine it feeling like getting one's head tattooed.

I don't know anyone, either.  It can apparently be quite a long procedure - up to 10+ hours if you're doing a full 4000-5000 hairs.

I'm sure it's not comfortable, but pain/discomfort is not something I've seen people complain about.  Redness/pain/swelling seems to go away after just a few days.

As I understand it, hairs from the side/back of the head aren't nearly as susceptible to going bald, even after transplant.  That's the risk if you have it done and the rest of your hair falls out.  Of course, you could then just get a second procedure (but good work is not cheap!).

DHT is apparently the leading culprit, and there are shampoos that supposedly help.

Otherwise, fish oil supplement are good in general, but seem to also help for healthy skin and hair.  A number of other people and a few small studies report surprising success from saw palmetto and beta sitosterol supplements.

DHT was kind of the old school theory on it, but apparently many researchers have moved past that and almost look at it as a symptom of a different problem. A lot of the new studies almost completely disregard it. Apparently, for some it's an issue but for many it's not really a problem.

Same reason people get boob jobs, or buy fancy cars, or expensive jewelry. For many people confidence is derived from the perception people have of you.

One should not depend on others for confidence.

Its like that old saying you gotta love yourself first.   If you cant accept who you are then changing yourself wont make you better just fake.   To many people worry about others opinions...  Ill tell you ive been on the internet and most peoples opinions should not effect anyones lives...  Including mine lol...

women will like you with or without hair  in my experience.

Fact.  I get more "signals" from women 20-25 years younger than me, than I ever did when I was their age.
