Ian Rapoport: Bengals reaching out to non-in-house candidates
(01-02-2018, 11:37 AM)Pat5775 Wrote: Well, I hope you're right.

But I find it hard to believe Mike gives any shred of a shit about fans and attendance. If he did, Marv would have been gone immediately after the Ravens game and this will-he-stay/will-he-go nonsense they're dragging out wouldn't be happening.

Mike must realize keeping Marvin will result in record-setting lows in attendance next season. There is simply no good reason to entertain the idea that Marv should still be coaching in Cincy. And yet, here we are.

Damn! 28th even in 2015? Yikes... Does that scale take into account the small size of PBS?

We just have to make sure, I have to make sure, we're all on the same page."

Is it a stretch for me to think Mike Brown wanting John Ross is the major motivation behind this comment? We've been hearing for years that Merv has unprecedented control, and Mike/Merv even remarked during the infamous 2010 presser that Mike had only overruled Merv 1 time (we all felt at the time that they were talking about bringing Chris Henry back after Merv cut him).

Obviously speculating based on evidence, but IMO it looks like Mike overruled Marv on the Ross pick. I've never seen Marv be so hard on a 1st round pick, and something had to motivate Marv to say this. Mike had to overrule him on something

Honestly, it's pretty ridiculous we're still talking about control going into year 16. If Marv doesn't have it now, he's never going to get it. Someone commented that attendance figures could motivate Mikey to give up control... but it's not like attendance hasn't been low before...and if Mike cared much about attendance figures, he has to know that year 16 of Marv and another "NO CHANGE" presser isn't going to drive ticket sales.

31st out of 31. They didn't count the LA Rams for some reason.

If he doesn't care about it after their 50th anniversary season then i think it's safe to say he's never cared about it.

It didnt look good for sure, but nobody can sit here and say with honesty that 2 years is enough time for a coach to build a team around his system and philosophy. I've heard a lot of bad things about both Marshall and Cutler. He apparently wanted really bad to get rid of them. Apparently no one else in that org did. That was the start of the bad blood from the way I remember it playing out back then. It went downhill from there. Dont get me wrong, there are other coaches I'd rather have, but I also dont think Denver is the tell tail measuring stick for McDainiels. 2 measly years? Eh.

Denver went from 2nd to last in their division under McDaniels. John Fox won Denver's division and a playoff game with Tebow in his first season after replacing McDaniels. But, somehow there isn't enough evidence to judge?

For you there is apparently enough evidence to judge. For me there is not. I want to see coaches get their system and players in place before I make a case on whether they are a bad or good coach. I'm totally against the new trends that coaches are hired and fired after a year or 2. I have seen too many times where it takes a coach a few years before it really hit stride. I think McDaniels made a lot of mistakes, but at the same time he was trying to build "his" team. He didnt get a chance to do that if you ask me. But its ok that you dont agree.... dont really want to keep going back and forth over something so insignificant. We both know Marvin will be back, sadly. Whodey

Very deceptive stats.  I am pretty sure we sold out every home game in 2006.

But attendance is not a big concern for MB.

It's the fault of the Cincinnati fan base! Ninja
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

That's right...

Didn't we have an epic home sellout streak from 2005-2007?

PBS is one of the smallest stadiums in the league so I think, by default, the total numbers will always be low by comparison.

In recent years, attendance has dropped and deservedly so. I won't be shocked at all if attendance figures set record lows this upcoming season

It's total tickets sold, so the numbers will be a bit deceptive. Better way to look at it (for me) is the % is was soldout.

'06 & 07 was 100.7 (ranked 9th)% sold out
08 it started to get worse with 98.6 %, skidding into the mid teens.
15 was 93.7 (24th)
16 was 92.4 (24th)
and last year was a putrid 81.3% (last).

Looking at that you can tell when the fans started not caring anymore.
