I made one of these a few years back. It took me a couple of half days but it was rather easy. And the key is that it is inexpensive.
I built it in the garage and dragged it out to my back deck.
I skipped the final step, step 9, the slots, and just move the 2x4 wide side to make what ever angle I want, and it holds fine. I can still store the 2x4 underneath when I just want the chaise flat. If you are looking for a simple project with a nice reward.... It's very comfortable with a full length cushion on it. I left the top straight instead of curved. Optional addition would be to add legs in the middle. I didn't do that, but it still supports me easily.
