Per joe goodberry:

Hobson says Jordan Evans will play WLB when Burfict is suspended and called Evans and Vigil the two Nickel LBs.

That's what's I've heard, too. But AJ being AJ means making some pretty amazing catches. I know he's had a few drops, but he's so damn good, I think we can afford to almost take him for granted. Let's see what Ross and the other young WRs can bring. Erickson is evidently a real badass. I know I expected him to get cut this year, but he's been making some plays.  The roster battle at WR is going to be very interesting to watch this year. AJ's a given, but we need guys around him who pose their own threat. Boyd is beginning to look like he did at Pitt. He broke Larry's records there, for Pete's sake!!

I hope you all read Bicknell talking about how it takes a WR to adjust to the NFL, and he says Boyd has made the jump to NFL level. With signs of the light going on for John Ross, it's pretty exciting to think of how good this offense might be.

Bottom line is that AJ's been a stud since day 1. He's not going to collapse now. No news IS good news as far as I'm concerned. I just hope he stays healthy.
Today I'm TEAM SEWELL. Tomorrow TEAM PITTS. Maybe TEAM CHASE. I can't decide, and glad I don't have to.

There's our downfall this year.   Those two are below average . My god I don't won't to see Those two on the field together

Could that be why they've already been showing some of the 3 Safety look, with Iloka and Williams playing close to the box?

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Evans was definitely showing improvement as the year went on.  Not saying he's going to be great, but he has a chance to be a good LB.

Here’s a piece by Richard Skinner highlighting a more confident Evans and reasons why:

some notes

-pollack says the right things, and we'll see how that translates when pads go on
-boyd taking #2 reps to me says they're looking at a housh/henry relationship with boyd and ross, which is #fine
-double moves w/ no pads/contact is stupidly unfair. speed kills.

Next to the offensive line creating an actual pocket and a rushing attack that can, well, attack...this is the most important change in personnel this season.  It has to work to spread out defenses and attack their weaknesses.  This is more important than Eifert playing.  If Ross and Boyd can do what they are capable of this season, the offense will soar.  Having the revamped line and improved scheme will make this more of a possibility than last year.

What if CJ had a son that married TJ's daughter and they hyphenated the last name?

First name (likely an initial) Uzomah-Houshmanzadeh.

I think I just found my next jersey.  Can you imagine an announcer having to get out all seven syllables?  The play would already be over.

Evans was improving very fast in the last part of last season. I am excited to see him play this year. Vigil, though I'm not a hater I've never been a big fan of, was playing on a bum ankle last year, so I'll give him another chance this year before I write him off.
And then....... there's this......

Quote:[*]Second-year defensive end Jordan Willis going around right tackle Jake Fisher when Fisher whiffed.
[*]Rookie center Billy Price stopping defensive tackles Andrew Billings and then Chris Okoye in their tracks.
[*]Second-year defensive end Carl Lawson getting under left tackle Cordy Glenn and then racing around him.
[*]Veteran left guard Clint Boling standing up second-year defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow when Glasgow tried to bull rush him.
[*]Right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi locking up veteran defensive Carlos Dunlap on one rep and then on the next rep pushing Dunlap deep past the quarterback.

So your thought process is young players never improve???

Why don't we wait and see if they progressed prior to trashing them?

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

Interesting take on 5th round pick Phillips. If he can return kicks and punts, he improves his chance to make the team and could put Erickson on the cut line.

I also think Willis could be a 3 down DL player. Could he go inside at tackle on 3rd down, a role MJ plays making MJ expendable?

I’m really pulling for Phillips and Harris. You can never have enough corners.

I would have to think that they are exploring that option. I think we will see MJ on the final roster but it sure would be nice for the young guys to come in and force him out. Nothing against him but infusing that DL with youth and talent coupled with saving money on the cap with his release? Releasing MJ for the win!

On a similar note, we may have to "suffer" through some of Billy Price's growing pains. He won't go through the season without making them, but, I have a feeling they won't be the ones that linger through the season and his performance will still be an improvement over Bodine.
