Blowing leads

You really don't hear of such a position as half time adjustment specialist. I suspect that if it really were a thing every team would have one.
I tend to agree with Marvin on that one,  a term made up by commentators, but who really knows? It's not as if absolutely nothing ever changes at half time of every single Bengals game .

Yes because "Half-Time adjustments" is a term.

Adjustments should and will be made as the game progresses.

Not necessarily at Half-Time.

They may assess injuries/personnel changes/flaws & wrinkles a little bit.

Scripted plays the first few drives might point to being hot and then going flat as the opposing D figures things out.

As a fan... who really knows?!?

First of all I give you credit for bringing up prevent defense when I was just talking about offensive play calling.

When a team gets the ball at its own ten with less than a minute to play and no time outs it is smart to play a little loose.  But Arizona just needed a field goal and we made it too easy.

I didn't watch the game, and don't know what happened... But if what I'm reading is true, I'm gone. I'm done with the Bengals. I just didn't realize it til now.... Blowing leads in the 4th preseason game... Get the **** outta here.

How many damn times has a Bengals fan seen this team come out of the gate hot and not even be able to sustain it for 60 minutes?

Yes Bengals blow too many halftime leads, but that is because we play bad in the second half, not because of the offensive play calling.

In fact the worst case of bloawinga halftime lead recently was the wild card game against the Chargers.  And what do most fans complains about?  .  .  .  Marvin threw the ball too much.

Personally, i think it has more to do with a fear of blowing a lead by being too aggressive--pick six, turnovers, quick series, etc--so he just trusts the defense and field position too much. It's much harder to point to a blown lead when it's slow death as opposed to quick turn arounds with turnovers. But it's def been a Marv staple during his reign.

I agree it's a team thing...it just seems like you get this feeling (as a fan that's seen too many games) that they're done, at some point after a lead has been established.

And it is too easy to blame Marv for not doing something/anything  to try and get the team jump started. I'm not completely unwilling to say that it has nothing to do with Marv and has everything to do with the players on the field, i'm just tired of seeing it and it's so easy to point the finger at the man in charge.

There was no way that wasn't going to happen.

Exactly. The QB would have to be blind not to see that matchup.  As frustrating as blown leads are this may have been the most predictable and irrelevant blown lead in the history of football.

The interesting thing to me will be whether Teryl Austin can eliminate the tendency we've seen in recent years for the defense to go flat at the end of the half.
