SIGN AJ GREEN!!!!!!!!
(09-09-2015, 08:37 PM)Wes Mantooth Wrote: It aint happening before the season, which is pretty much bs.  How can you not pay a guy who you've been claiming you've been saving for 4 years?  That was always the reason some money was held back in previous years, for AJ and Andy.

All the other teams got their respective deals done with their comparable receivers.  And the one team that has been budgeting for it years in advance lets their guy go into the season with no guaranteed money beyond this season.  Classy.

Oh, and AJ would be nuts not to want to sign early if offered a competitive deal.  The market is set and there is ton of risk in waiting.  All signs point to this being on the Bengals not offering an equal deal.

More than anything I hate being lied to.  This team has lied to their fans about saving for this upcoming contract.  They have no urgency to spend the money that they've pocketed from previous rollover.  They'll forever kick the can down the road, all the while referencing expiring rookie deals and injury settlements.  Way to go, assholes.

What Mikey says doesn't always match what Mikey does. Should know that by now.

Even though, I don't see this as a problem. AJ wants to be here. We want him here. Have to assume Mikey B wants him also.

If cap space is a problem trying to get AJ done, plus the long list of free agents at the end of the year, I know an over paid QB we could send to another team.

Not sure how much you want to put into that report. It's Mikey fault tho if true, for letting the market get set by other receiver. Always reactive, never proactive.

Do you clowns seriously believe that AJ won't be here long term? I mean, given the team's history over the last decade of signing their own, what in your right mind would lead you to think otherwise and subject us sane people to a 7-page thread full of drivel?

Dareus and Kuechly both reached deals today, gotta believe their fans were completely losing they're shit right?

I think I'm going to have to go with: Because the regular season kicks off today and he's still not signed?

And remember, this thread was a call for them to sign him ASAP.  It was not just a question of would he ever be signed.  The question was why isn't he signed yet. Here's why:

1.) Because he's earned it, and it seems unfair to have him risk his future, playing on a 1 year option.  Especially when all his peers were rewarded with new deals.  All of which have produced less over their first four years.

2.) Letting go into his last year has some risk.  He could take it as a sign of disrespect.  He could hold back some.  He could hold out.  You lock him up early for all the same reason you lock up anyone early.  To secure his rights, to prevent a hold out, to potentially pay less now than in the future, to make the player happy.

You can scoff at the idea that this topic is deserving of discussion all you'd like.  But it's seen a good deal of attention elsewhere.  The Enquirer has written about it, ESPN has written about it, Rotoworld has provided many updates to WR free agent market and now AJ.  The list goes on and on.  Mo, Lance, etc.

When your best player is entering the final year of contract that's worthy of some talk.  When all of the receivers that are regarded in his class have signed recently that's worthy of some talk.  When you're told, from the team itself, that's the franchise is withholding cap space for a future deal, and when the time comes that deal isn't done, that's worthy of some talk.

You act as if we've never let a coveted player walk. J-Joe and Housh are just two recent examples, of guy they waited on, who ended up hitting the road.  To pretend that it's so ridiculous to call for this deal to be completed or to wonder what the hold up is, seems incredibly foolish.  To ridicule others for talking about it seems agenda driven.  Why such a problem and so defensive about such an obvious talking point?

Kuechly was entering his 4th season.  Next year was his option year.  Him signing now is akin to AJ signing last season.  Kind of curious to wonder why their fans "aren't losing their shit", in an obvious dig directed at our fanbase, when it's a year ahead of us,no?

Would they have been losing their shit if it were next season and he was still without a deal, playing on a 5th year option?  Would they have been losing their shit had their team been without holding cap space years in advance and he remained unsigned long-term?  Hard to tell.  I would guess there would be more questions .

Why. Hasn't. He. Gotten. It. Already. ???????

I guess some of you are fans of treating your best player like total shit.  And I'm a bad fan?

J-Joe and Housh were not our unquestioned best player at their respective position so that comparison really doesn't hold much water.  Having said that, they were still offered lucrative deals before choosing to go elsewhere.  There is nothing in the Bengals recent history to suggest that AJ won't be here other than random speculation.  In addition, him leaving could not happen until after 2016 (unless the Bengals want him gone which is silly based on the fact that they are currently negotiating).

Talking about is fine.  I'm accurately ridiculing the widespread panic over a lack of a deal at this moment because, those who take an honest look at how the Bengals run the organization, understand that an AJ extension is a matter of when, not if.

There was something on Bleacher Report in which Jason Cole said that AJ wants 15 million a year, and Mike isn't keen on paying that.

Isn't Jason Cole considered one of the least reliable sources?

What CB has made the probowl on our roster? Unlike the perennial probowler JJ. And we still haven't replaced Housh. Just for the record. We blew through a lot of money trying tho.

Perennial pro bowler?  He's made it twice in nine seasons, none when he was with the Bengals.  And he was never the clear cut, unquestioned #1 CB in his time here.  There was great debate as to whether Joseph or Hall would be the better sign.  There is no such debate about AJ vs. Marvin Jones in 2015.

Just like with every other superstar here, you all know he's gonna tear his ACL after the extension. So I say we hold it off

You say that like it's a fact.  Care to share where you've heard this?  Or are you just making things up and pretending they're true?
