2017 saints

The NFL is built on teams going from worst to first and parity. They want to spread playoff wins around.

Since we've last won a playoff game, some 26 teams have won 5+. That makes not winning one seem even more impressive.

People in Casino's lose a ton of money thinking that the next hand will be the big winner. Yes! The Saints turned it around! We will too!

26+ years of evidence shows otherwise.

Yeah...but if we can just hit big on 3 draft picks next year! Reality is we rarely hit on 1 in Year 1.

I suppose you're about to tell me how we hit on Price, Bates, and Hubbard this year? 2 of those 3 being terrible players currently. 1 being Good.

Enough said.

Plus, the receiver 1 pick in front of Boyd...Thomas is REALLY good.

And Boyd is to. Dude is on pace for 1200 yards.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

I think you'd unfortunately have to do AJ for 1+3 rather than Boyd for 2. Tyler Boyd is 6 years younger and wouldn't command the same dollar amount that Green would to re-sign.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Yep !

Hitting on one quality starting player in a single draft is a really good one. Hitting on two that are actually out there making an impact is a once a decade or even less kinda thing. Hitting on three quality full time good to very good starters is once a half century !

Now you may hit on two or three good ones in a single draft that develop into quality starters down the road ? But the chances of having three high quality full time starters in one draft ? It's like the chances of hitting the lottery for millions.

In nearly every quick turn around story out there Mikey's dirty word comes into play (free agents)

If you're a team that puts so much emphasis on the draft, you better have one of the biggest and best scouting departments in the league otherwise you'll have a lot of disappointment...oh wait...

That’s actually probably a much more important distinction.

Payton does have to deal with that wacky Benson family, a more comical and thus lovable version of the Brown family...

The Saints actually have a GM though and basically almost 3x the Player Personnel Dept as we have.

I guess our scouts are just 3x better...

So how did that happen i ask. Seeing as the saints were once poorly run...

The Saint's drafted well a couple years in a row. Let's not forget that 2016 draft. Sheldon Rankins, Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, David Onyemata.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

They went out and got Brees and eventually got the right people in the right positions.

The Bengals don't make changes to management.

More than that, they also chose a competent coaching staff that was able to get newly drafted players on the field and producing instant results, two years in a row.  That is impressive.

Yes.

To sum up this thread, we're 2-3 really good drafts and competent coaches who can develop players away from being Good.
