Reds trade Roark for Jameson Hannah

Reds get CF Jameson Hannah for Roark

Jameson Hannah was drafted on round 2 in 2018.  He is rated #7 in A's farm system.  Here is a little background.  I think to get something for Roark is good deal now that Bauer is on board.

Drafted 2018 – 2nd Round

With last year’s top pick Kyler Murray seemingly out of the picture, Hannah is the only selection from last year’s draft to make this year’s list. The 2nd-round pick is a speedy contact hitter who can cover a lot of ground in center field. Hannah is primarily known for his smooth swing and his solid plate discipline, but he also showed his speed by successfully swiping 28 bases in 30 attempts in his college career. In 2018, the Texas native led his college team in both doubles and triples while notching just as many walks as strikeouts with 35 of each. Although he doesn’t appear to have much real home run power, Hannah does have good power to the gaps, and his efficient swing should enable him to hit for a high average. His speed not only makes him an effective base stealer but also allows him to get a good break on balls in the field. A stint on the DL limited Hannah to just 23 games with Vermont in his pro debut last summer, but he hit .279, posted a .347 on-base percentage and managed to swipe six bases in six attempts for the Lake Monsters. A’s scouting director Eric Kubota extolled Hannah’s hitting abilities in an interview with A’s Farm last summer: “We think Jameson’s just a natural-born hitter. He’s just got those hitter’s hands, and his approach is advanced. This is a kid we think can just flat-out hit.” And the 21-year-old should have the chance to show what he can do in the hitter-friendly California League in 2019."

Roark was not under contract for next year while Bauer is.

Replacing Roark with Bauer gives Reds a formidable starting rotation.  If Reds extend Wood and he somehow remains healthy:

1-Castillo 
2-Bauer
3-Gray
4-Wood
5-Disco

If this rotation holds up for 2020, it would have to be ranked as one of the top 2 rotations in the National league if not all MLB.

This makes me a little less upset about trading Trammell. Hannah looks like a similar player with similar upside.

A three-year starter at Dallas Baptist, Hannah improved each year in college and as he turned in a huge junior season, his name was popping up in 2018 first-round conversations. The A's were very happy he lasted until the second round, the earliest the Patriots have had a hitter selected, and signed him for an above-pick value bonus of $1.8 million. He was able to show off some of his tools in the short-season New York-Penn League during his pro debut, but a foot injury shelved him for the summer in mid-July.

While he isn't the tallest guy in the world, he's strong and athletic and has a strong track record of consistent hard contact from the left side of the plate. He has an advanced approach, managing the strike zone well and finding the barrel while being very quick to the ball. His bat speed and strength point to some over-the-fence pop and plenty of extra-base power. He's shown he can handle wood just fine, both in a scorching hot stretch to end his Cape Cod season in 2017 and during his brief pro debut.

A plus runner, Hannah is an efficient baserunner with the potential to steal bases and cover a ton of ground in center field. He's a capable defender, albeit one with a fringy arm. He could start to move quickly given his all-around skillset, with a potential future as a No. 2 type hitter in a big league lineup awaiting.”

In high A ball this year. It looks like he’s hitting and getting on base. 6 steals and 7 caught stealing, may wanna work on that a bit. He seems like a decent return for Roark though.

Roark started great coming out of the gate, but since the ASG he's done nothing but trend downward with very little hope of signing him for 2020 even if they wanted to.. The best pitch from him all season had to be striking out the thumper Yelich with the bases loaded in Milwaukee.. That was a memorable moment..
